Background | IFN-gamma encodes the ligand-binding chain (alpha) of the gamma interferon receptor which is a heterodimer of IFNGR1 and IFNGR2 and IFNGR1 is associated with susceptibility to Helicobacter pylori infection. IFN-gamma and lymphocytes prevent primary tumour development and shape tumour immunogenicity (1). IFN-gamma is also a cause of mendelian susceptibility to mycobacterial disease, also known as familial disseminated atypical mycobacterial infection. IFNG is a regulator of hematopoietic stem cells during homeostasis and under conditions of infectious stress (2). |
