Host Species | Human |
Synonym | RBM35A, RMB35A |
Background | Epithelial splicing regulatory protein 1 (ESRP1) is an epithelial cell-specific RNA binding protein that controls several key cellular processes, like alternative splicing and translation. Epithelial splicing regulatory protein 1 (ESRP1) has been characterized as an essential splicing factor required for the regulation of human pluripotency and differentiation. ESRP1 regulates CD44 alternative splicing during the EMT process which plays an important role in EOC carcinogenesis. In addition, ESRP1 is associated with disease prognosis in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Epithelial splicing regulatory protein 1 (ESRP1) and 2 (ESRP2), epithelial cell-specific regulators of alternative splicing, are downregulated during the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). There is a critical role of the AS regulator epithelial splicing regulator protein 1 (ESRP1) for intestinal homeostasis and pathogenesis. |
