Product Overview
Description | Recombinant Human Ornithine Decarboxylase is produced by our E.coli expression system and the target gene encoding Met1-Val461 is expressed with a T7 tag at the N-terminus, 6His tag at the C-terminus. |

Gene Background | Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC1) is an enzyme which belongs to the Orn/Lys/Arg decarboxylase class-II family. ODC1 is the rate-limiting enzyme of the polyamine biosynthesis pathway which catalyzes ornithine to putrescine. The activity level for the enzyme varies in response to growth-promoting stimuli and exhibits a high turnover rate in comparison to other mammalian proteins. |

Target Details
Target Function | Catalyzes the first and rate-limiting step of polyamine biosynthesis that converts ornithine into putrescine, which is the precursor for the polyamines, spermidine and spermine. Polyamines are essential for cell proliferation and are implicated in cellular processes, ranging from DNA replication to apoptosis. |
